Participants will learn how to identify prescribing errors, assess the clinical appropriateness of IV therapy, verify preparation requirements, and recognize situations that require clarification with the prescriber.

By strengthening the verification process, the workshop aims to reduce medication errors, improve patient safety, and prevent unnecessary compounding of inappropriate or unsafe preparations.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

◎ Apply a structured workflow for clinical verification of IV medication orders before compounding.

◎ Assess patient-specific factors that influence IV medication selection, dosing, and administration.

◎ Verify medication orders for indication, dose, route, frequency, concentration, diluent, final volume, infusion rate, and duration.

◎ Identify common prescribing, transcription, and preparation errors requiring intervention.

◎ Evaluate IV compatibility, stability, and preparation requirements using evidence-based references.

◎ Determine when an order should be clarified, modified, or withheld before compounding.
